Accountant
The Opportunity
We are a privately-held corporation based in Canada, seeking a detail-oriented and motivated accountant to join our finance team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to build a career in accounting and gain valuable experience in a dynamic organization within the software industry. You will assist in various financial tasks to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. Your expertise will grow in business processes, systems, and business inputs/outputs that drive our billing, revenue, and cost recognition activities. You will be actively involved in continuous process improvements, automation, and operational insights across the business to minimize manual bookkeeping and reconciliation activities through process optimization, integration, and investments in automation. You will be responsible for payables, receivables, and account reconciliation. Beyond these core accounting functions, you will be asked to assist with financial reporting and analysis of key metrics.
What You'll Do
- Accounts Receivable: Manage recurring or ad-hoc billing, conduct collections and monitor billed services, and ensure customers are compliant with our AR policies, deposits, receipts.
- Accounts Payable: Receive and categorize incoming Invoices, performing 3-way matching and route them through the approval system. Manage periodic payables run.
- Accounting: Prepare journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, sub-ledger maintenance.
- Expense Management: Monthly review and processing of all Company Employee expenses to ensure compliance with the Company expense policy. Assist with entering expenses for the leadership team to ensure timely and accurate expense reporting
- Financial Reporting and Analysis: Manage standard reports (AP, AR, Estimates, monthly consumption of services) and assist management with month-end and year-end closing.
- Revenue and Cost Recognition: Recognizing revenue, COGS, operating expenses as per Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
- Compliance and Audit Support: Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal accounting policies. Collaborate with the finance team to prepare documentation and provide support during financial audits conducted by external auditors
- Process Improvement: Participate in continuous process improvements, automation, and operational insights to enhance efficiency
- Support the preparation and ongoing maintenance of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
- Other duties as assigned
What You Bring
- Completed Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- Working towards CPA is considered an asset but not required
- Minimum 1 year experience in accounting or finance preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (QuickBooks, Xero, PowerBI, or similar)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
